Leadership Development

In today’s complex and dynamic working environment, business leaders the world over are continually looking for ways to improve performance, make a greater impact and satisfy the demands of all stakeholders, i.e. employees, shareholders, suppliers, etc.

The question is often not one of competence, because let’s face it, in order to be successful, your ability and competence to operate at a high level is a given.

The difference that can make the difference however, is your behaviour.  How do you do what it is that makes you successful?  How able are you to inspire people around you? How able are you at motivating and empowering those over whom you have managerial control, to continually give of their best and be the best that they can be?  And finally, how consistently do you behave in these often transformational ways?

Extensive research conducted by Leadership Research and Development Limited (LRDL) into the field of leadership qualities, behaviours and cultures, suggests that Transformational leadership is based on integrity, openness and transparency.  It recognises, values and promotes the talents of each individual in an organisation.  It articulates a shared vision that empowers employees through developing potential.  It unites different groups of stakeholders for the benefit of the clients and customers it serves, and the organisation as a whole.

Transformational leadership is an approach that nurtures and supports day to day leadership behaviour.  It encourages each individual within an organisation to take on the role of a leader and encourages him/her to: think for themselves; work innovatively; use their initiative; question the status quo; and support their colleagues and partners.

By becoming more aware of how you behave in the working environment and the impact your current behaviour has, you will be in a better position to take the developmental actions that will enable you to lead in a way that increases motivation, performance and effectiveness and gives the staff that work for you a greater sense of value and worth.

One Approach

360-Degree Feedback based on The Transformational Leadership Questionnaire (TLQ) – The TLQ is at the cutting edge of leadership assessment and development.  It is a 360-Degree feedback instrument, which invites the individual, his/her peers/colleagues, bosses and direct reports to rate their leadership behaviour and its impact – essentially TLQ measures ‘the way you do things’, and ‘the effects you have on others’.  This creates a detailed diagnostic report, which can be explored further with a highly competent facilitator, and from which a personal development plan to strengthen areas of concern can be developed and implemented with on-going support, if required.

TLQs have been developed for public and private sector organisations and feedback reports can be created for teams and groups as well as individuals.  TLQs are easily administered both online, via the internet or in pen and paper format.
